movie project CSUSM

1. I truly enjoyed working on the imovie project. I think it was well set up and it gave me a chance to show my personal creativity.
2. I believe students would enjoy this project as well. When the students are given all the clips and photos needed I believe this project could be a great learning experience.
3. I honestly did not use Atomic Learning. I learned through trial and error. I also by my peers.

1. When first hearing about the program i thought it wouldn't be very helpful for my future classroom. But I once I started to use the program I discovered there's lots of ways I could incorporate it into my classroom.
2. When students are learning to use the bubble graph (organizational skills) they cn use this program to divide there ideas into sections. Students may use this program when working into groups to organize their strategies and ideas.
3. Depending on my mood at that moment in time will depend on how I want to learn a new program. I usually want someone to show me or I will just play with the program until I accomplish what I want done. So I did not use the Atomic Learning in this activity.

Groff, J., & Haas, J. (2008). Web 2.0: Today's technologies, tomorrow's learning. Learning & Leading with Technology. 36, 12-15.

The article “WEB 2.0 Today’s Technologies, Tomorrow’s Learning,” written by Jennifer Groff and Jason Haas states that using social networking, digital games and simulations on the computer will help classroom learning. This is supported through research and input from other teachers. Teachers can improve their digital gaming knowledge by networking with other teacher who may use this technique in their classroom. Digital gaming has been proven to be successful in the students learning.

1. In your opinion what are some benefits and disadvantages of using digital gaming?

Students may become to hooked onto digital gaming the they do not want to learn in a traditional style. Just like any other video/ computer game children can become to involved and not want to take a break or move onto another activity. Digital gaming does has its perks as well; it promotes decision making, critical thinking, and social networking.

2. How would you make digital gaming apart of your classroom in a successful way?

By making sure I, the teacher, completely understand the digital gaming “world” I then in turn help students with a successful experience. By letting the students know that everything gets an equal opportunity on the computer and giving them warnings of when their turn is up may help eliminate any problems with the students wanting more time on the computer.

Christensen, C., & Horn, M. (2008, August/September). Disrupting class: Student-centric education is the future. Retrieved October 8, 2008, from Edutopia Web site: http://www.edutopia.org/student-centric-education-technology

“ Disrupting Class; Student-Centric Education Is the Future,” written by Clayton M Chritensen is an article that describes a scenario classroom led by technology only. Students would learning their subjects and requirements using a program geared for that particular lesson. The program would also be geared for the student so that they can learn the material in the best manner suited for the child. Although this seems idealistic it is completely cutting out peer and teacher interaction. Students will lose the communication skills and learning how to cooperate with others in a civil manner.
1. Do you believe this would improve student's education?
I do not think a classroom using strictly computers will help students anymore than how the classroom is taught now. Using a well-balance of peer contact, group activities, individual work and computer work will help improve student's learning and social abilities. With the budget cuts already in place using precious money on computers will only make classrooms larger. Computers should be looked as apart of the curriculum not as "the" curriculum.
2. Do you think this way of a classroom would be beneficial to all students?
I do not think all students would benefit from this type of a classroom. Many students need that one on one contact and instruction. Although many students with different ways of learning or who struggles with a learning disability may excel at this type of a classroom.

Villano, M (2008, September). Text unto others . . . as you would have them text unto you. Retrieved October 8, 2008, from T.H.E. Journal Web site: http://www.thejournal.com/articles/23225_6

I really enjoyed reading the articl entitled "Text Unto Others…As You Would Have Them Text Unto You,” written by Matt Villano. The article discusses issues with the younger generation using technology and how teachers and parents need to informed children about the do's and don'ts of the internet (virtual world). When posting anything it is up there for the world to see. Although a child may only be playing around with a statement that statement can be read all across for everyone to read. Another important topic children need to know about the internet is that music like everything else not does not come free. Although it may be free to download on the internet that is a wrong doing and is considered stealing just as if you were in a store.

1. What are "cyber nights" and how may they help?
"cyber nights" are held to keep parents informed on the correct and legal way of using tools on the internet. Cyber nights can help inform people correctly so that they may in turn teach the younger generation the rights and wrongs.
2. How can teachers help improve virtual manners?
As a teacher setting a good example and being (like always) a good role model can only help improve the ways students go about using the internet.

Greenhow, C. (2008).Who are today's learners?. Learning & Leading with Technology. 36, 16-17.

In the article "Who are Today's Learners" by Christina Greenhow talks about how students and teacher can take advantage of using the computer. Many teacher make assumptions automatically about whether or not a child may have access to a computer after school hours. The article discussed a survey which showed students testing at average or above average on that standardizing testing using the computer often or very often. By avoiding stereotypes the article mentions how giving a simple questionnaire to your students at the beginning of year to show who has access to a computer from home and how can accomplish what. By conducting this questionnaire you can evaluate how to incorporate technology into the classroom. Students have shown interest in using the computers and now as teacher we have to advance their knowledge of technology.

1. What are common mistakes that teachers makes in the classroom about technology?
Teacher automatically assume that students who come from a low income area are at a majority disadvantage when it comes to technology; meaning they have little or no access to computers outside of school. Another common assumption that teacher make is that student are very advanced in technology and using computers.

2. How is using the computer inside the classroom beneficial?
When using the computer inside a classroom the students are being exposed to programs that are used in the everyday life and “real” world. Not only will these skills help students after they are done with school but it will help them prepare for higher education. Learning to type at a younger age can only improve their skill as time moves forward.
